PE & Sports Premium Funding

Performance

This has been another successful year for Our Lady of Lourdes in PE and sport.

Funding Allocation

The school continues to invest in sport. We have again spent more than we were allocated through the PE and Sport Premium grant. We believe in the value of sport, fitness, and well-being – professional coaches give the children high-quality lessons and pass on their expertise to willing staff, giving them confidence and increased competence.

Opportunities, impacts and sustainability

We continue to provide one-to-one support in PE where necessary. Year 5 children attended swimming lessons this year. EAL children were targeted in after-school Change4Life sessions. We seek to engage pupils in a variety of after-school activities and through Greater Manchester’s ‘Walk to School’ programme. We feel that this type of activity, coupled with intra-school initiatives, like the Daily Mile, helps our pupils to remain fresh, focussed, and ready to embrace the whole curriculum.

Coaches, staff, and the cluster ‘Festival’ programme offer a wide range of sporting and dance-based activities. The ‘Festival’ programme allows us to send more children to represent the school in a plethora of different activities. After-school activities cater for a wide range of children of differing ability.

Quality provision of PE and dance activities, along with our emphasis on ‘active school’ activities, has led to greater attainment in PE. Most children in our school perform at the expected level or above for their age.

Increased levels of staff participation and the willingness of our Senior Management Team and School Governors to approve extra finance for school sports will be major factors in the sustainability of our future provision.

Swimming

Years 5 and 6 have both attended swimming lessons this year. There is clear improvement in both year groups.
