Here at Our Lady of Lourdes we have a very dedicated and passionate Eco-Team who have been active for a number of years.
We have achieved awards that include; The Schools Eco Award and the Woodland Trust’s Award.
We are actively involved with Farnworth Matters and we regularly go litter picking in the Local Area, in Partnership with other local schools and Bolton at Home.
We love to improve our school environment, from tidying our school grounds to planting bulbs, shrubs and perennials, to making bird feeders in the winter time. We enjoy making posters to encourage us to save energy and have successfully ran recycle paper and battery projects.
As a team we follow Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si (May 2015) and are reminded that our common home is like a sister with whom we share life. We aim to follow his 3 principles and understand that they are “closely intertwined relationships with God, with our neighbour, and with the Earth itself.”
As a school and as Pope Francis asked us to, we commit to setting out “On the long path of renewal.” This work will be continued under the guidance and leadership of Pope Leo XIV who has just taken the title following his inauguration on May 18th 2025.

At Our Lady of Lourdes we have a long tradition and commitment to helping those in need. We try to support our local community, our diocese, and our country. Our children and families are also committed to giving back to associations that have helped them. These include Alder Hey children’s Hospital and The Christie. Our School Council endeavour to support Catholic Social teaching in caring for the vulnerable.
As was noted by our recent Ofsted Inspection:
“Pupils personal development is at the heart of the school’s work. Pupils are encouraged to develop a strong sense of community pride. They are active citizens in the wider community through charity work, litter picking initiatives and contributing to local food banks.”
Over many years we have supported a range of charities that include; Fort Alice, Our Local Food bank, Bolton Hospice, Caritas and St. Joseph’s Penny, Children in Need, The NSPCC, The Poppy Appeal and CAFOD.
